Learning about Spain

Junior Infants have been very lucky to have 2 Spanish students working with their class. Andrea and Angela taught them all about the country of Spain and even showed the boys and girls how to do 2 traditional Spanish dances - the Cha Cha and the Macarena! Here they are practising their  moves!

Diversity Code

Our wonderful Diversity Team came up with a fantastic diversity code for the school to use.

" Racism isn't cool, so keep it out of school!"

Intercultural Festival

Our Intercultural Festival was a huge success! The children had great fun getting their passports stamped and learning about all the different countries and cultures we celebrate in our school.

Senior Infants had fun getting their passports stamped at each country they visited.

Learning about Poland

The children have been learning all about Poland for the International Festival we are having, to work towards getting our Yellow Flag! Some of the parents very generously gave their time to teach the children songs, poems and dances and read traditional Polish stories to the children.

Proclamation Day

We had a fantastic day raising our new Irish flag for Proclamation Day.
M. Bernie read out the Proclamation over the intercom so we could hear it.
Thanks to all the moms and dads who came along!

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Last week was ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ in Merlin Woods. Every class made a huge effort to speak Irish and engage in Irish activities throughout the week. Some of the class started a ‘Leabhar Gaeilge’, they spoke Irish in the yard, the senior classes were learning various Irish proverbs, there was a table quiz ‘as gaeilge’, art competitions and 3rd class were lucky enough to have a Céilí with Junior Infants! Below are some pictures of 3rd class and Junior infants brushing up on their Irish dancing!
