Our Inclusion Tree
We have worked hard this year and last year in our school, towards achieving the Yellow Flag for inclusion in our school. Everyone in our school is unique and different and come from various backgrounds, but we know that everyone is included and our differences are accepted and celebrated! This is our school Inclusion tree that symbolises that uniqueness and celebrates our individuality! All of the children in our school stamped their fingerprint on the tree to make the leaves!

Yellow Flag
This week we had whole staff training with people from the Galway Traveller Movement. Bridget, Nora and Dave came to our school to deliver a workshop on travellers and on the work of the Galway Traveller Movement. We learnt about the life of travellers in the local community, as well as accomodation issues and the role of the community health worker in the traveller community. It was very interesting to get a unique perspective of the life of travellers.

Traveller Culture Awareness
This week the children in Second Class were very lucky to learn about the traveller culture and traditions, through the expertise and experience of Bridget and Kathleen from the Galway Traveller Movement. The children learned about how travellers lived in the past and how they made a living through working as tin smiths. The children had the chance to examine some of their handiwork and the various markings on the tin buckets. The children also learned about the connection between travelers and horses. The ladies also taught the children some words from the Cant language!

Learning about Spain
Junior Infants have been very lucky to have 2 Spanish students working with their class. Andrea and Angela taught them all about the country of Spain and even showed the boys and girls how to do 2 traditional Spanish dances - the Cha Cha and the Macarena! Here they are practising their moves!
Diversity Code
Our wonderful Diversity Team came up with a fantastic diversity code for the school to use.
" Racism isn't cool, so keep it out of school!"
